Persephone has so often been represented as the damsel in distress.  She has been frozen permanently in the maiden archetype - helpless, innocent, victimized. She is, however, also the Queen of the Underworld. She is powerful and wise in her own right, and she is shown here in an eclipsing form.  She is a duality that cannot be contained completely in either aspect, and she is far more interesting than we acknowledge.
